McCorvey, a former Alabama state Democratic executive committee chairman, is probably best known as one of the leaders of the Dixiecrat revolt of 1948. He was also heavily involved with the passage of the Boswell Amendment in 1945. Used selectively as a means to disfranchise blacks and poor whites, that amendment to the Alabama constitution required voters to interpret and explain any section of the U.S. Constitution.
